FID’s mission
FID encourages the emergence of new solutions aimed at reducing inequalities and combating poverty. Because innovation can emerge anywhere, FID maintains a continuously open call for projects, welcoming a wide range of actors, with no sectoral restrictions, to support solutions implemented in low- or middle-income countries.
Projects receive grants tailored to their level of maturity: whether to prototype or pilot an early idea, to rigorously evaluate its impact, to initiate a first scale-up or to support its deployment through public entities [see the funding stages].
It is open to any ideas that can generate lasting impact, regardless of their stage of development or field of action.
Am I eligible?
FID selects the innovations it funds through a year-round open call for projects.
Projects must be located in a low- or middle-income country according to the OECD DAC list available on their website, except Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
All types of organizations and collectives may apply, independently or within a consortium. Individual applications or those submitted by international organizations are not eligible. To help you identify the most suitable funding stage, a decision tree is available: Discover the decision tree.

Explorer la FAQ- No, FID is not designed to ensure the operational continuity of a project throughout its development cycle. Acceptance at one stage does not guarantee funding at the next. Each application is evaluated independently, based on the FID’s specific selection criteria.
- FID prioritizes innovations in the education, health, climate and gender equality sectors, but remains open to innovations in all sectors. Applications for all activities are assessed according to the evaluation criteria in the Call for Proposals.
- FID funds activities in all countries eligible for official development assistance (OECD list) , regardless of the nationality and origin of the innovators, researchers and organisations. Teams can submit their applications regardless of where the applicant and partner organisations are registered. However, applications for preparation grants must be submitted by organisations based in one of the countries eligible for official development assistance.
- FID aims to review your application, make an initial decision, and notify you of that decision within approximately 3 months of receipt of your application. You will receive updates about your application from contact@fundinnovation.dev, so please ensure this email address is added to your contact list. The review process includes three steps: 1. An Initial Review (2-3 months) in which the FID team assesses the application submitted to the online portal against the evaluation criteria outlined in the Call for Proposals. 2. Additional Information Gathering (1-4 months) in which FID staff may ask follow-up questions, request additional information or documentation, speak with partners on the proposal, and speak with external experts with relevant sector, local, or technical expertise. 3. Convening of and recommendations by the Review Committee. Applicants should expect a minimum period of six months between the submission of the application and first funding disbursement.
