Education

From 2 to 6 February, Richa Gupta and Vedant Jain, co-founders of Labhya, travelled to Paris to present, alongside representatives from FID, the results of their project aimed at improving learning outcomes by enhancing pupils’ well-being. This week of exchanges provided an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders in research and development, notably the Innovation Data and Experimentation for Education - Paris School of Economics, the OECD, International Institute for Education Planning-UNESCO, as well as the French association Scholavie and several funding partners. These meetings offered the opportunity to present the results achieved, discuss their implications, and explore prospects for dissemination and scaling up.

Meeting with the Scholavie association in France: sharing innovations between India and France

Labhya has introduced a daily 30-minute class called ‘Saharsh’, focused on holistic well-being, and integrated into the school day. This session includes mindfulness practices, reflective storytelling and stimulating activities designed to work on pupils’ overall well-being and socio-emotional management. The French association Scholavie trains education professionals to take better account of pupils’ psychosocial skills, defined as “the ability to understand and manage one’s emotions, collaborate effectively, make informed decisions and solve everyday problems.” The exchange between Labhya and Scholavie highlighted strong similarities between the approaches developed in India and France, particularly in placing socio-emotional skills at the heart of learning strategies and creating a safe school environment conducive to success. Despite their distinct institutional and cultural contexts, the teams identified shared challenges, notably the need to anchor interventions in rigorous scientific research as well as the difficulties associated with institutionalisation and scaling up based on evidence of impact.

Towards the next stage of international outreach: the Skoll Forum

From 21 to 24 April, the Skoll World Forum will take place – a major international conference dedicated to social entrepreneurship and solutions to major global challenges. The event will bring together leaders from around the world, including social entrepreneurs, NGOs, philanthropists, researchers, policymakers and businesses. Labhya will be present alongside the FID at the ‘Marmalade Festival’, a series of side events to the Skoll Forum. This open and participatory platform provides a space to discuss innovations and foster partnerships.
