FID is co-organizing a new edition of its summer school in Rabat, Morocco, from July 4 to 7th 2023, in line with the "Development Methodologies" Chair held by Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo.

On July 4th, a hundred African researchers and project leaders will attend this summer school in Rabat to expand their knowledge in impact evaluation. FID, in partnership with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Laboratory (J-PAL), the Moroccan Employment Lab (MEL) and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, is conducting this workshop as part of Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo's "Development Methodologies" Chair. This summer school aims to provide African development operators with methodological tools and guidelines around impact evaluation. This summer school is intended for research teams with the potential and interest to incorporate evaluation methods into their research and projects. It also seeks to assist project leaders interested in evaluating the impact of their innovative ideas.

Specific training modules on impact evaluation

This new edition builds on the 2022 Summer School that took place in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. This year's training includes two separate modules: an academic workshop intended for research teams, and an "incubator" designed for a wider audience of people who do not necessarily specialize in impact evaluation, providing them with a concrete understanding of impact evaluation. Joint sessions will be organized to bring together participants of both modules and encourage interaction over the four days of training. This program will be carried out by J-PAL researchers who will be in charge of conducting the academic module. Esther Duflo, Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and awardee of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics, will deliver the main lecture.

FID's July 5 event

FID will also hold a “Fostering Innovation to Transform Public Policy” event on 5 July 2023 at the Mohamed VI Polytechnic University of Rabat (UM6P).

In the presence of Esther Duflo, 2019 Nobel Laureate of Economics and FID President of the Board, Juliette Seban, FID Executive Director, Silété Roselin Devo of the National Identification Agency of Togo, Christiane Ansa of the African Management Institute, this event will highlight the essential role of the FID in supporting emerging projects and institutionalizing proven innovations.
